On Nov. 27, 2017, CAI students – Kathryn Trout, Christopher Meagher and Christopher Ferrigno – competed and won first place in the Burger Brawl University Challenge hosted by Nordon’s Preferred Kitchen Equipment and Sports Radio 94WIP 27 in Langhorne.
They competed against students from The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College in Philadelphia, Drexel University Culinary Arts program and Career Institute of Technology of the Lehigh Valley.
As winners of the University Challenge, the students had the opportunity to compete in the Xfinity Live! 8th Annual Philadelphia Burger Brawl on June 3 against contestants from the region.
Additionally, the students’ award-winning ancho chile burger made the menu at The Conshohocken Brew Pub in Bridgeport, Pa. in January, where it was a popular item with customers.
Culinary Arts Institute (CAI) students will cook their award-winning ancho chile burgers to compete in the 8th Annual Philadelphia Burger Brawl against top chefs, restaurants and culinary artists from the region for the judges’ and people’s choice awards.

About the Philly Burger Brawl:
Started in 2011 by Maggie and Rob Wasserman, the Philly Burger Brawl is an annual event featuring some of the top restaurants, chefs, and culinary artists in the region. The event raises funds to finance technology-based programs in under-served Philadelphia schools.

The Culinary Arts Institute of Montgomery County Community College is the region’s home for innovative, affordable culinary arts education and training.
