PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) –– If you’re craving a big, juicy burger, you can grab one — or 60 — at Xfinity Live on June 10, while also helping support Philadelphia public elementary schools.

The 8th annual Burger Brawl is a fundraiser for Philadelphia schools. It was started by Rob Wasserman, who helped update the computer lab at Meredith Elementary School with money from the first event.

“We raised a few thousand dollars,” Wasserman said. “The second year we did it it grew again and I said, ‘we can’t stop!’ ”

Nowadays, the Wasserman family lives in the suburbs, but he still sees a need to help children in the city.

“We work with the Philadelphia’s Children First Fund or The Fund this year, and they help us to put the money into the correct schools which are needing the computers, the white boards, anything to do with technology that we can help with.”

With 60 restaurants participating and 3,000 people expected to attend, Wasserman says this is a monster of an event, so you’ll want to go in with a strategy.

“Walk through it, enjoy yourselves, pick the burgers you want to try first. Have a couple bites, and if you really are hungry, then go back and have another one; because for the $45 dollars, you get all the burgers, tacos and cocktails for free!”
